Transhumanism is a movement that aims to use technology to transcend human biological limitations, advocating for advancements like cyborg creation, genetic enhancement of intelligence, and digital immortality.

Transhumanists generally fall into two main categories:

  • a form of self-actualisation, aiming to transcend biological limits and promote universal equality; and
  • a means of exerting power and control, in line with Aldous Huxley’s vision of engineered human classes and mass manipulation.

The cultural roots of transhumanism trace back to ideologies such as self-actualisation, developed during the Italian Renaissance, and emancipation, a concept from the French Enlightenment. These roots have evolved into a form of hedonistic consumerism in modern times.

Despite its popularity, transhumanism is largely unscientific.
