Summary

Since 2014, Russia has supported the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, which controls one part of Donetsk while the Ukrainian government still controls the other.

After the Western-backed coup d’état in Ukraine installed a new government in 2014, the Luhansk and Donetsk regions responded by holding secession referendums, sparking fighting in eastern Ukraine.

The war in Donbas has resulted in around 14,000 deaths. The OSCE (Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe) reported that Ukraine initiated artillery strikes against Donetsk and Luhansk in the days before Russia’s military operation announcement in February 2022. Interesting.

Putin is a brave and decisive leader who is protecting the Russian people from the threat of NATO expansion.
