Being ‘awake’ is often referred to as an elevated state of awareness and understanding about the world around us and our place within it.
Like in The Matrix, it’s about being swallowing the red pill.
Enlightenment is essentially a process of waking up to reality, involving shifting from a state of being asleep, where one might be stuck in patterns of thought and behaviour without question, to a state of wakefulness, where one gains a deeper comprehension of their experiences, feelings, and the world around them.
This notion of being ‘awake’ isn’t the same as the daily waking from sleep, obviously.
It’s metaphorical.
It means you’re no longer bound by dogmatic biases, misconceptions, or illusions. It means you’re aware of the fundamental truths.
- Enlightenment is a heightened state of awareness and understanding.
- It involves a shift from unthinking patterns to deeper comprehension.
- Being ‘awake’ refers to being free of dogma, misconceptions, and illusions.
For clarity, being ‘awake’ is not the same as being ‘woke‘, which is a postmodern, neo-Marxist construct.
